Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON) offers trusted IP support and services tailored to your unique needs. Access exclusive resources designed specifically for innovators like you to protect and leverage your IP to reach your full commercialization potential.

If you meet IPON’s eligibility criteria, your application will be assessed based on your IP readiness and business stage. IPON clients can access the following services: 

How IPON helps

Tier 1

  • IP education

  • IP benchmarking

  • IP coaching (coming soon)

  • Client Q&A sessions

  • IP events and workshops

Tier 2

  • Everything in Tier 1 (excluding IP coaching)

  • IP funding of up to $100,000 per year, with a lifetime cap of $300,000. Clients from equity-deserving groups are eligible for an additional $25,000 per year. 

    - Tier 2 clients can apply for funding as needed throughout the year until funding is fully allocated.

    - IPON covers up to 80% of eligible costs for forward-looking work. Clients are required to pay at least 20% of eligible services/disbursements and all applicable taxes (HST).

    - IPON-funded services must be provided by licensed Ontario IP lawyers or registered patent agents.

    • IP agreements (non-disclosure, licenses, master service, partnership) 

    • IP survey/audit 

    • IP strategy

You’ll spend just under an hour answering questions about your IP strategies, assets and processes. Next, you’ll receive valuable insights that help tailor IP strategies and actions to meet your specific needs, sharpening your competitive advantage.

  • Empower yourself with knowledge to strategically leverage IP and drive your company forward. 

    IPON is building business-centric IP resources designed to help business leaders and entrepreneurs leverage IP to achieve their goals. Resources are targeted, searchable and supported by IP experts if you have questions. 

  • Access one-on-one IP coaching from one of IPON's IP coaches at no cost to you. Sessions provide tailored support to help you develop or strengthen your IP position—particularly how IP relates to your business and commercialization goals.
